Iceland at a glance
Checked 5 November 2026- Cheapest plan listed
- $2.761 GB / 30 days, Yesim (sale price)
- 7 days unlimited
- $19Ubigi on Vodafone; Maya’s global plan is $19.99
- 10 GB for 30 days
- $12Ubigi (Nomad: $16)
- Entry
- Schengen rules, EES biometrics on arrival
These Iceland plans are data-only, with no local phone number. Keep your home SIM on for bank and app SMS codes.
Why Iceland is different
Iceland is cheap for data. 10 GB for 30 days is $12 at Ubigi and $16 at Nomad, and Nomad’s 20 GB is only $20.
Two networks appear. Airalo lists Síminn (spelled “Simmin” on its page), Nomad lists Vodafone and Síminn, and Ubigi lists Vodafone.
Schengen rules apply. Iceland isn’t in the EU but is in Schengen, so non-EU visitors go through the Entry/Exit System on arrival (see entry).
Quick picks
A week or two, normal use
A 10 GB / 30-day plan: $12 at Ubigi or $16 at Nomad. Nomad’s 20 GB is $20.
No counting
Ubigi’s Iceland unlimited: $19 for 7 days on Vodafone, or Maya’s global plan at $19.99.
A month or more
Maya’s global plan is $49.99 for 30 days; Yesim’s 30 days of unlimited was on sale at $51.60.
More than one country
If you’re also visiting mainland Europe, compare a Europe plan and check it lists Iceland.
Step 1: Size your plan for Iceland
Maps, ride-hailing, transit apps and messaging use little data. Uploading photos and videos and making video calls use much more. As a rough guide, maps and messaging use hundreds of megabytes a day, while video and video calls can use several gigabytes. These are general estimates, not measurements.
Under a week, maps, messages and transport apps
3–5 GB fixed plan
1–2 weeks, photos, social apps and video
10–20 GB fixed, or unlimited
Remote work, video calls, tethering a laptop
Unlimited, after checking its fair-use and hotspot rules
Step 2: Compare published prices
Unlimited plans by trip length
| Days | Airalo | Nomad | Holafly | Ubigi | Yesim |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3 days | $11.00 (lowest listed) | $11 (lowest listed) | $11.90 | — | — |
| 5 days | $18.50 | $18 (lowest listed) | $20.50 | — | — |
| 7 days | $26.50 | $25 | $27.50 | $19 (lowest listed) | $28.80 |

| 30 days | $69.00 | — | $76.50 | — | $51.60 (lowest listed) |
Lowest listed price in the row — means no plan of that length was listed. Holafly ($3.90) and Yesim ($8.40) also sell a single day. Holafly lets you share data as a hotspot. Yesim’s Iceland unlimited prices were sale prices on 5 November 2026. Maya sells one global unlimited plan at the same price for every country: $9.99 for 3 days, $19.99 for 7, $27.99 for 14 and $49.99 for 30 (see Maya). Official pages, checked 5 November 2026.

Lowest listed price in the row Validity differs, so compare the small print as well as the price. Where a provider sells the same data amount for several lengths, we show the longest. Airalo also lists shorter versions (for example 10 GB for 7 days at $18.50). Ubigi also lists 10 GB for 7 days ($11). Yesim also lists 30 GB for 30 days at $30.00 (sale price). Official pages, checked 5 November 2026.
Step 3: Check the fine print
- Networks. Airalo: Síminn. Nomad: Vodafone and Síminn. Ubigi: Vodafone. Holafly, Saily, Yesim and Maya didn’t name one.
- Unlimited isn’t always unlimited. Ubigi says a fair-use policy may apply. Holafly’s Iceland page limits hotspot sharing to 1 GB a day (a 7-day plan includes 7 GB to share).
- Activation windows. Nomad starts a plan automatically 60 days after purchase if you haven’t used it. Saily says all plans have a 180-day activation period; after that the plan starts automatically. Ubigi’s plan starts when you arrive.
- Hotspot. Yesim says hotspot depends on the operator, and gives 180 days from purchase to activate.
- Yesim sale prices. On 5 November 2026 Yesim showed reduced Iceland prices (for example 10 GB for 30 days at $19.20, normally $27.60, and 7 days of unlimited at $28.80, normally $58.80). Offers end, so check at checkout.
- EU roaming. Iceland is in the EEA, so the EU’s roam-like-at-home rules cover SIMs from EU and EEA operators. They don’t cover the travel eSIMs on this page, which are priced per destination.
- Saily unlimited. Saily sells unlimited plans here, but we couldn’t read a price for each length, so check at checkout.
- No local number. These plans are data-only. Saily sells an optional US phone number, and Yesim offers a 20-minute calling add-on.

Yesim
- Iceland from

- $19.20
- Unlimited
- $28.807 days; $51.60 for 30

Maya
- 3 days
- $9.99unlimited data
- 7 days
- $19.99unlimited data
- 30 days
- $49.99unlimited data
What stands out
A cheap option for 30 days of unlimited data. It’s one global plan, so the same eSIM keeps working if Iceland is one stop of several. Maya’s page says "No caps, no throttling."
What to watch
It renews automatically while Travel Mode is on, so turn it off when you get home. The page we read doesn’t name the local networks or spell out a fair-use policy, and we haven’t tested the no-throttling claim.
Will your phone work?
- eSIM-capable and unlocked. Apple lists iPhone XS, XS Max, XR or later. Settings → General → About should say "No SIM restrictions" next to Carrier Lock (full checklist).
- Bought in mainland China? Apple says that in China mainland only the iPhone 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max, iPhone Duo, iPhone 17e and iPhone Air support eSIM. Many older mainland models use two physical SIM cards instead, so check for Add eSIM in your settings before you buy a plan.
- Bought in Hong Kong or Macau? Apple notes that certain iPhone models sold there have two nano-SIM slots. Check for Add eSIM in your settings first.
- Install before you fly. Install the eSIM at home on Wi-Fi and leave the line switched off until you land (install guide).
Entry: EES now, ETIAS later
The Entry/Exit System (EES) has been fully operational at Schengen external borders since 10 April 2026. If you’re a non-EU visitor on a short stay, your first crossing records a face image and four fingerprints (children under 12 give no fingerprints). It’s free, and there’s nothing to apply for in advance. Allow extra time at the border on your first trip.
ETIAS, the travel authorisation for visa-exempt visitors, isn’t operating yet, according to the EU’s official Travel to Europe site. You can’t apply for it, and you don’t need it to visit Iceland today.
Don’t pay for ETIAS yet
Some websites already sell “ETIAS applications”. ETIAS isn’t running, and EES is free, so you don’t need to pay anyone for either.
- Passport. GOV.UK says it must have been issued less than 10 years before you arrive and be valid for at least 3 months after the day you plan to leave.
- 90 days in 180. Visa-free visitors can stay up to 90 days in any 180-day period across Schengen, and may be asked to show a return or onward ticket and enough money for the stay.
- Customs. GOV.UK says you can’t bring meat or milk products into Iceland, and you must declare cash of €10,000 or more.
Our take
For most trips, Ubigi’s 10 GB for $12 or Nomad’s 20 GB for $20 are the best value. For a week of unlimited, Ubigi ($19) and Maya’s global plan ($19.99) are lowest.
