eSIM vs roaming cost comparator

Put your carrier’s daily roaming pass next to a travel eSIM for the same trip. Presets are only used where we could verify a public price on the carrier’s site; otherwise type your own rate.

Trip and carrier

Defaults to the calculator’s “typical” estimate for your trip length so we don’t compare a tiny 1 GB pack to a full day pass.

Presets cite official pages checked 5 Nov 2026. Always confirm on your account — promotional rates and plan inclusions vary.

How to read this

  • Roaming total = daily rate × trip days (or the package price if you picked a multi‑day International Pass that covers the whole trip).
  • eSIM total = the cheapest pack we list that covers both your trip length and the data amount you chose (or the calculator’s typical estimate). Airalo, Saily or Yesim where we have structured prices; otherwise guide snapshots (Nomad, Ubigi and others). If nothing in our table covers that need, we say so and link the destination guide.
  • Data‑only vs talk/text: day passes usually include calls and SMS; travel eSIMs here are typically data‑only.
  • Vodafone UK and other pack‑based roaming: use custom input — divide the pack by the days you’ll actually be abroad.

Also see our written comparison: eSIM vs pocket WiFi vs roaming, and size the eSIM with the data calculator or how much data by country.

Frequently asked questions

Is a carrier day pass always more expensive than an eSIM?

Often for multi‑day trips, but not always. If your plan already includes high‑speed roaming (some T‑Mobile Magenta plans do in many countries), or you only need one day abroad, the day pass can win. Run your numbers with the real daily rate on your bill.

Do these roaming prices include calls and texts?

AT&T International Day Pass and Verizon TravelPass are marketed as talk, text and data for the day. Most travel eSIMs we compare are data‑only — keep your home SIM active for SMS codes, or use WhatsApp/iMessage on data.

Why can’t I find Vodafone UK as a preset?

Vodafone UK’s Europe roaming is sold as multi‑day passes (for example 8‑ and 15‑day packs when we looked), not a single daily rate that fits every trip. Use Enter my carrier’s daily rate and divide the pack price by the days you’ll be away — or enter the pack as a custom daily figure.

Where do the eSIM prices come from?

The same Airalo, Saily and Yesim figures we publish in the data calculator and destination guides, checked on official pages. Caps and fair use still apply — open the plan page before you buy.

Will this work if my home carrier is outside the US or UK?

Yes — choose Enter my carrier’s daily rate and type what your operator charges per day (or per 24 hours) in the destination. The presets are only examples we could verify on official US/UK pages.
