Airalo vs Holafly (2026): fixed data vs unlimited days, fair use and hotspot

Verdict depends on trip length and whether you tether a laptop. See sample prices below.

How they price differently

Airalo sells local, regional and global eSIMs. On many destination pages you will see both fixed-data packages and unlimited packages sold by day length. Some destinations also list data + calls + texts plans.

Holafly sells almost only unlimited-by-the-day plans: you pick how many days you need and get unlimited data for that stretch, subject to fair-usage and hotspot rules on the plan page.

Fair use and hotspot (the real differentiator)

Holafly markets unlimited data. Its Japan, USA, Ireland and South Africa pages also publish a 1 GB per day hotspot sharing limit. The same pages say a Fair Usage Policy may temporarily reduce speed for up to one day.

Airalo unlimited packages need the same scrutiny on the specific package page. A dedicated public FUP help URL did not return a readable article body in our 6 November 2026 fetch, so treat the package details at checkout as the source of truth. See our unlimited fair-use guide.

Hotspot trap

If you plan to tether a laptop every day, Holafly’s 1 GB/day hotspot cap can strand you after a short meeting. Prefer a large fixed plan from Airalo, Nomad or Saily, and confirm hotspot is allowed on that exact package.

Who should choose Airalo, Holafly, or neither

Light use, short trips

Airalo or Saily

A 1–5 GB fixed plan is usually cheaper than three unlimited days. Saily listed 1 GB / 7 days from about $3.99 on several destinations we cover.

Hate counting gigabytes

Holafly

Pick your days and stop watching the meter — after you accept the 1 GB/day hotspot cap and possible one-day FUP slowdowns.

Laptop hotspot every day

Fixed plan (Airalo / Nomad / Saily)

Avoid tight hotspot caps. Confirm the package page allows tethering before you buy.

When to pick Saily instead

Choose Saily when you want fixed gigabytes, a long activation window (Saily states 180 days on plan pages we checked), and you prefer Nord Security’s product stack. It is not always the cheapest unlimited option. Compare Saily on our Airalo vs Saily vs Yesim page and the focused Saily vs Airalo and Holafly vs Saily guides, then open the destination guide for the country you are visiting.

Frequently asked questions

Is Airalo or Holafly cheaper?

It depends on the destination and trip length. On Japan unlimited plans checked 6 November 2026, Airalo listed $26.50 for 7 days and $69.00 for 30 days; Holafly listed $27.50 and $73.90. For light use, a fixed 1–5 GB plan from Airalo or Saily is usually cheaper than unlimited days.

Does Holafly really give unlimited data?

Holafly sells unlimited-by-the-day plans. Its destination FAQs also state a 1 GB per day hotspot sharing limit, and say a Fair Usage Policy may temporarily reduce speed for up to one day. Read the plan page for your destination.

Does Airalo support hotspot?

Hotspot rules sit on the specific package page. We did not capture a single global Airalo FUP article body on 6 November 2026, so check the package details at checkout before you rely on tethering.

When should I buy Saily instead?

When you want fixed gigabytes, a long activation window, or Nord Security extras — not when you only want the simplest unlimited-day product. Compare on our Saily comparison pages and the destination guide.

Did you speed-test Airalo and Holafly?

No. Signal Atlas summarizes official pages with a check date. We do not publish speed tests or hands-on claims we did not perform.
