Best eSIM for Ireland (2026): prices, Three and Eir, and Northern Ireland

Dublin, Galway, the Wild Atlantic Way and Cork: Ireland trips run on maps, buses and coastal drives where signal can fade between towns. Ireland plans are not the same as UK plans — and Northern Ireland is the trap. This guide compares seven travel eSIM providers using only their official pages.

Northern Ireland usually needs a UK plan, not an Ireland-only plan

These Ireland plans are data-only, with no local phone number. Keep your home SIM on for bank and app SMS codes.

Why Ireland is different

Airalo lists unlimited only on Three. The Ireland page we checked on 6 November 2026 showed unlimited packages from 3 to 30 days on Three (3), with Europe and EU+UK regional options from $5 and $4. Fixed-data Ireland packages were not listed beside those unlimited plans.

Ubigi undercuts most unlimited weeks. Ubigi listed 7 days unlimited for $19 and 10 GB for 30 days for $12. Nomad lists 3 / Eir and Holafly lists 3 Ireland / Vodafone Ireland.

Northern Ireland is not covered by an Ireland-only plan. Crossing into Belfast or the Causeway Coast usually means you need a UK (or EU+UK / Europe plan that lists the UK). See Northern Ireland.

Heavy use

Ubigi’s week of unlimited is $19. Airalo is $27.00; Holafly is $27.50; Maya’s global plan is $19.99.

3 and Eir

Nomad lists 3 / Eir. Holafly lists 3 Ireland / Vodafone Ireland. Useful if one network is thin on the Atlantic coast.

Regional plan

If Belfast or Scotland is on the itinerary, compare a UK plan or an EU+UK / Europe plan that lists the UK.

Step 1: Size your plan for Ireland

Maps, ride-hailing, transit apps and messaging use little data. Uploading photos and videos and making video calls use much more. As a rough guide, maps and messaging use hundreds of megabytes a day, while video and video calls can use several gigabytes. These are general estimates, not measurements.

Under a week, maps, messages and transport apps

3–5 GB fixed plan

1–2 weeks, photos, social apps and video

10–20 GB fixed, or unlimited

Lowest listed price in the row — means no plan of that length was listed. Yesim ($4.20) also sell a single day. Holafly allows 1 GB a day of hotspot sharing and lists 3 Ireland / Vodafone Ireland. Maya sells one global unlimited plan at the same price for every country: $9.99 for 3 days, $19.99 for 7, $27.99 for 14 and $49.99 for 30 (see Maya). Official pages, checked 6 November 2026.

Airalo’s Ireland page listed unlimited packages only when we checked; regional Europe / EU+UK options start from $5 / $4. Saily unlimited day length beside the $48.99 figure was not clearly shown. One country, or several?

Plans on this page are sold for Ireland. If your trip crosses borders, a Europe plan can be simpler: Airalo listed 15 days of unlimited Europe data for $49.00 and Holafly $51.50 (see our Europe guide). EU “roam like at home” rules apply to SIMs from EU operators; check each provider’s coverage list rather than assuming a single-country plan works next door.

Step 3: Check the fine print

  • Networks. Airalo: Three (3). Nomad: 3 / Eir. Holafly: 3 Ireland / Vodafone Ireland. Saily, Yesim, Ubigi and Maya didn’t name one on the pages we read.
  • Unlimited isn’t always unlimited. Ubigi says a fair-use policy may apply. Holafly’s Ireland page limits hotspot sharing to 1 GB a day (a 7-day plan includes 7 GB to share).
  • Activation windows. Nomad starts a plan automatically 60 days after purchase if you haven’t used it. Saily says all plans have a 180-day activation period; after that the plan starts automatically. Ubigi’s plan starts when you arrive.
  • Hotspot. Yesim says hotspot depends on the operator, and gives 180 days from purchase to activate.
  • Northern Ireland. Ireland-only plans typically stop at the border; buy a UK-capable plan for NI days.
  • No local number. These plans are data-only. Saily sells an optional US phone number, and Yesim offers a 20-minute calling add-on.

Maya

$19.99unlimited data
30 days
$49.99unlimited data

What stands out

Close to Ubigi for a week ($19.99 vs $19), and useful if Ireland is one stop of several. It’s one global plan, so the same eSIM keeps working if Ireland is one stop of several. Maya’s page says "No caps, no throttling."

What to watch

It renews automatically while Travel Mode is on, so turn it off when you get home. The page we read doesn’t name the local networks or spell out a fair-use policy, and we haven’t tested the no-throttling claim.

Will your phone work?

  • eSIM-capable and unlocked. Apple lists iPhone XS, XS Max, XR or later. Settings → General → About should say "No SIM restrictions" next to Carrier Lock (full checklist).
  • Bought in mainland China? Apple says that in China mainland only the iPhone 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max, iPhone Duo, iPhone 17e and iPhone Air support eSIM. Many older mainland models use two physical SIM cards instead, so check for Add eSIM in your settings before you buy a plan.
  • Bought in Hong Kong or Macau? Apple notes that certain iPhone models sold there have two nano-SIM slots. Check for Add eSIM in your settings first.
  • Install before you fly. Install the eSIM at home on Wi-Fi and leave the line switched off until you land (install guide).

Northern Ireland and the UK border

The Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland share an open land border, but mobile plans often do not. An Ireland-only travel eSIM typically covers the Republic. Days in Belfast, Derry/Londonderry or the Causeway Coast usually need a UK plan, or a regional plan that explicitly lists the United Kingdom (Airalo’s EU+UK starting from $4 on the Ireland page is one example to price).

Coverage trap

Do not assume a Dublin eSIM will keep working after you drive to Belfast. Check the coverage list, or buy a UK plan for NI days. See our UK guide.

Entry: EES now, ETIAS later

The Entry/Exit System (EES) has been fully operational at EU external borders where EES applies since 10 April 2026. If you’re a non-EU visitor on a short stay, your first crossing records a face image and four fingerprints (children under 12 give no fingerprints). It’s free, and there’s nothing to apply for in advance. Allow extra time at the border on your first trip.

ETIAS, the travel authorisation for visa-exempt visitors, isn’t operating yet, according to the EU’s official Travel to Europe site. You can’t apply for it, and you don’t need it to visit Ireland today.

Don’t pay for ETIAS yet

Some websites already sell “ETIAS applications”. ETIAS isn’t running, and EES is free, so you don’t need to pay anyone for either.

Ireland note: Ireland is in the EU but not in Schengen. Entry rules and any future travel authorisation can differ from mainland Schengen routes. Follow official Irish Immigration / EU Travel to Europe guidance for your nationality, and GOV.UK if you are travelling from the UK under the Common Travel Area.

Our take

For most Republic of Ireland trips, Ubigi is the value pick for both 10 GB ($12) and a week of unlimited ($19). Want named dual networks? Nomad lists 3 / Eir. Crossing into Northern Ireland? Price a UK or EU+UK plan before you buy Ireland-only.

Before you fly

  1. Decide: Ireland or Europe

If you’re visiting more than one country, compare a Europe plan before buying a single-country one.

  2. Buy and install at home

Check your phone is unlocked and eSIM-capable (how to check), then install on Wi-Fi before departure. With Nomad, don’t buy more than 60 days ahead.

  3. Switch on when you land

Turn on the travel line, enable data roaming for that line, and set it as your mobile-data line.

  4. If you visit Northern Ireland

Price a UK or EU+UK plan for NI days; do not rely on an Ireland-only eSIM across the border.

Frequently asked questions

What’s the cheapest Ireland eSIM?

On the official pages we checked (6 November 2026), Yesim’s 1 GB for 30 days was $3.00. For 10 GB over 30 days, Ubigi listed $12 and Nomad $16.

What’s the cheapest unlimited eSIM for Ireland?

Ubigi: $19 for 7 days, $29 for 15 and $49 for 30. Maya’s global plan is $19.99 / $49.99. Ubigi says a fair-use policy may apply.

Which network do Ireland travel eSIMs use?

Airalo lists Three (3). Nomad lists 3 / Eir. Holafly lists 3 Ireland / Vodafone Ireland. The others didn’t name one on the pages we read.

Does an Ireland eSIM work in Northern Ireland?

Usually not. Buy a UK plan or a regional plan that lists the United Kingdom for NI days. See our UK guide.

Should I buy Ireland or Europe?

For the Republic only, a country plan is usually cheaper. If you also visit the UK or several EU countries, price Europe / EU+UK first.
